About The Provider
Kelly Renee Finan, MD, earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. She completed her internship and residency in general surgery the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Finan completed her masters of science in public health in epidemiology while performing clinical outcomes research during her time in Birmingham. She then specialized in colorectal surgery and completed her fellowship training at Barnes Jewish Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Finan is Board Certified in both general surgery and colorectal surgery. She is the current director of the rectal cancer multidisciplinary team and holds several administrative leadership positions at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Dr. Finan treats colon and rectal cancer, medically refractory inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis) and diverticular disease utilizing advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques to help improve the recovery of her patients. She is trained in advanced endoscopic and transanal approaches to remove large colorectal polyps without surgical bowel resection. Dr. Finan focuses on high-quality care for her patients aiming to improve the surgical experience through enhanced recovery pathways that minimize pain and recovery time while improving her patient's quality of life. Dr. Finan became a doctor because she finds joy and fulfillment in helping others. As a surgeon, she enjoys the complex workup to diagnose the disease and ability to formulate a surgical plan tailored to the person and disease process. Being able to cure a patient's cancer or improve their quality of life is incredibly rewarding and renews her joy in practicing medicine. When not in the office, Dr. Finan is actively involved in Get Your Rear in Gear, a 5k run/walk focused on raising awareness about colon cancer.

I had an appointment with Dr. Kelley Finan on Tuesday, March 10, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. Throughout the visit, she consistently interrupted me and did not allow me to fully express my concerns. This made me feel unheard and dismissed as a patient.This is not my first experience with this type of behavior from her, which is why I've made the decision to no longer continue care under her. While she may be knowledgeable in her field, bedside manner is just as important in healthcare, and empathy and respect should never be overlooked.I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as patients deserve to feel valued, listened to, and cared for during their visits.
