Matthew Burger, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon at FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake. He earned his medical degree from LSU Health in Shreveport and completed his general surgery residency at LSU Health in New Orleans. He continued his training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, where he spent two years in cardiothoracic surgery as a clinical associate and senior clinical associate. 

Dr. Burger specializes in the surgical treatment of complex conditions affecting the heart and chest. His extensive training has prepared him to care for patients throughout every stage of their surgical journey, from evaluation and treatment planning through surgery, recovery and follow-up care. He works closely with cardiologists and other specialists to provide coordinated care tailored to each patient’s needs. 

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Burger has contributed to surgical research and medical education, with work focused on cardiothoracic surgery, trauma care and cardiopulmonary support.
